Description Payment RARE & Wonderful Tramp-Art Baby Chair ! Click to View Image Album Completely unique and handmade antique baby's chair, obviously made for a young boy named Gabriel! Tramp Art has similar designs throughout the world, and this piece is from early California/Mexican heritage. It was in the fabulous collection of a major California folk art/tramp art collector for many years before I acquired it. Now I have to sell off my goodies so here it is! The piece has wear from use and age is more for display-only piece, unless someone has carpentry skills far beyond mine. The high chair measures approximately 40" high at the back x 15" deep x 16" wide; seat itself measures 13" deep x 12" wide. The body of the chair is pine and perhaps other wood, reed/straw was used to weave the seat and chair back. The arm rests of the chair are charmingly carved in a "dog tooth" pattern and beneath the seat is carved the recipient's name, highlighted in black paint on the raised letters: "Gabrielito".The chair has damage on the bottom bar of the seat back, where age or a wood knot has split the wooden bar and someone "laced" it together with wire. Bar isn't completely broken there, seems firm. There is an angled/turned stretcher on the left lower side that is missing on the right. The reed/straw woven seats have aged and seem sturdy, but the side panels are frail and not as thickly woven as the rest of the seat. They are intact and woven onto wire triangles fitted into the wood frame. There is a shaped footrest on the front, and the upright pieces on front of chair are hand carved/turned.
