Imported.   There are 15 cars total: 3 sets of 2 (6 total): engines and cars and 3 sets of 3 (9 total): passenger cars. I recently put a set up in our playroom. You can space the train however you want - - you don't have to put the train all together (there are two sets essentially). I mixed up the train patterns to create 2 back-to-back trains along the bottom of one 14' wall. I had a few cars left over and put them on a blank side of a train table we built for our sons. I also tried the leftovers on a red PBK piece of furniture (the inset panels) and that was really cute, too.
